The Devil Meaning

Major Arcana · Earth · Capricorn · Yes or no: No

Upright

bondage, addiction, materialism, shadow self, illusion

The Devil reveals the chains we forge ourselves. The figures wear their chains loosely — the bondage is rooted in the refusal to see it for what it is.

Reversed

liberation, reclaiming power, release, breaking free

Reversed, The Devil signals a liberating awakening. The chains are falling away — addiction confronted, shadow integrated, illusion dispelled.

The Devil in love

In love, The Devil is a major turning point: upright it brings bondage and addiction; reversed it warns of liberation and reclaiming power. Pay attention, because Major Arcana cards in a love reading point to lessons bigger than the relationship itself.

As feelings

As feelings, The Devil suggests bondage and addiction: what they feel is significant, not passing.

Career and money

In career and money, The Devil signals a significant chapter: upright, bondage and addiction; reversed, liberation and reclaiming power.

As advice

As advice, The Devil asks you to lean into bondage and addiction, and to guard against liberation.
