Questions, answered

What is a natal chart?

A natal (birth) chart is a map of where the Sun, Moon and planets were at the exact moment and place you were born. It shows each planet’s zodiac sign and house, the angles between planets (aspects), and your Ascendant (Rising sign) and Midheaven.

Do I need my exact birth time?

For your Sun sign and most planet positions, the date is enough. Your Rising sign, Moon degree and house placements depend on the time, so an exact time gives the most accurate chart. If you don’t know it, Nyravel uses midday and marks the time-sensitive parts as approximate.

Is Nyravel free, and is my data private?

Yes, everything is free and there is no account. Chart calculations run in your browser, so your birth details are never sent to a Nyravel server. Only the place name you type is looked up with OpenStreetMap to find its coordinates.

How accurate are the calculations?

Planet positions come from the open-source Astronomy Engine library, which is accurate to within about one arcminute. Nyravel also looks up the historical time zone and daylight-saving rules for your birthplace and date, a common source of errors in other calculators.

How is Nyravel different from Astro.com, Astro-Seek or Cafe Astrology?
