The Eight Moon Phases and What They Demand of You
A practical guide to living in rhythm with the lunar cycle
The Moon completes a full cycle every 29.5 days, passing through eight distinct phases. Each phase carries its own energetic frequency — and aligning your intentions with them is one of the oldest tools in astrology.
Before electric light, humans organised their entire lives around the Moon. Planting, harvesting, hunting, ceremony — all timed to its light. We have not changed biologically. What has changed is how little attention we pay.
The Eight Phases
- New Moon: Intention. Plant seeds. Whisper what you want into the dark.
- Waxing Crescent: Initiative. Take the first concrete step.
- First Quarter: Decision. A challenge arrives. Push through or recalibrate.
- Waxing Gibbous: Refinement. Adjust your approach. Precision matters.
- Full Moon: Illumination. What grew in the dark is now visible. Release what no longer serves.
- Waning Gibbous: Gratitude. Share what you have learned.
- Last Quarter: Release. Clear space deliberately.
- Balsamic: Rest. Do not initiate. Surrender and prepare to begin again.
You do not need to do anything dramatic at each phase. Awareness is enough. Notice, and the cycle will begin to work through you.
Every month, the transiting Moon passes through your natal Moon sign — your monthly emotional reset. Track it and you will begin to notice patterns in your own cycles.
